SERENADE
Dan
Herrick
When light turns
away and hides its face
the dark will walk among us.
And when my allies the shadows appear,
I hasten to the self-appointed pedestal close to the trees.
With full dark, I lift my head
Raise my arms and my Voice in dire supplication
croon to the unheeding stars
'til near the window high above
a familiar shadow forms.
Encouraged now, I sing for Her
and turn my back to the stars.
With my voice goes all my Love
to Her, I dare reveal my soul.
Her shadow swells and seems to glow
with all-consuming Fire.
Exalted now, I end the song
and name is Serenade.
