REMINISCENCE
Dan
Herrick
Flee to the place
of your un-birth. Find me.
No - never will you find me; I am the shadow
slipping senselessly among darker shadows; I am the
phantom footsteps stalking from behind in the long hall.
I am here with you always.
Cursed with innumerable
blessings, I reject my sanity.
What once was, is. What is, never again shall be.
My words have failed... we, our separate selves, are alone with our misery.
Facing back, our past fast approaches. Damn you, soulkiller.
The Life we once lived and loved no longer fits us, so
we discard our empty scarred shells of humanity;
and turn to embrace the future. Ruin, hate, and the inevitable agony of
love await.
Speak to me - How can we question what we cannot comprehend?
We suffer endlessly - All for the sake of our longing for
our ultimate tormentor - Memory.
Who am I to dare to turn back and face myself?
My caress is the shiver on the back of your neck;
My strike is the lightning agony in your heart;
I am the Power, and the Victim, in one.
I long for the blessed
comfort of what I once was.
I grasp for what is forever beyond me.
I weep for what I am become.
I am Reminiscence,
and I am but a reflection of my own soul.
