I Come As Beggar, I Leave As Thief
Dan Herrick

The Worm's thoughts quicken:
Sleep, secret, your time is past.

See the good fool quiver!
This day I drink to your fear
Slain for the games, he
Driven cracked, as thee.
Name thy Hope, that I may crush it.
Be dust! The world has forgotten your name!
Your smitten faith has survived
the fell and mighty prey.
Defeated, I live within you.
I become you, victorious.
Throughout your peace I have planned
and guided you
and taught you
and sealed the trap of the good.
This day I become nothing
And you become me, as I once was.
Cursed be my name,
now and forever, Amen.
